}Do Now! Set up computer’s and begin research on the following:
}1. The McCarthy Hearing (The Crucible) Read and get 20 lines for your notebook. Focus on Witch hunts, pledges, and Blacklists.
} 2. The Crucible Study guide McCarthyism Search for themes, story line, and major characters.
}Objective: Do background research on “The Crucible” . Student will understand historical influences on literature, and the political and religious materials used by Arthur Miller in “The Crucible”.
}Homework: Journal Prompt. Choose one of the daily quotes. Write two pages or write one page and collage. Will be checked tomorrow. Quote must be typed in font size 20 and glued to the top of the page. Remember to follow journal specifications.

} Vocab test on Friday, October 2, 2009. This test will include words 1-80. Review! Review!
}Students who have not passed in their NB, Journal, and V-Cards have received no credit.
}Homework: Know Vocab words 61-70
}Test and absentee policy: If you are absent from class for a test you must have made it up in 4 days. Tests on Friday must be made up by Tuesday of the following week. Thursday’s tests will be made up by Monday. A written note for the absence must also be available. Class test day cuts? No makeup available. You will receive a zero.

Culture

Major Concepts For Notebook:

1. Culture is defined as all the ways of living or human made systems built up by a group of people and passed on from generation to

generation.

2. Culture is learned behavior.

3. Culture helps define who we are.

4. Culture can be described in concepts such as: food, clothing, art, music, language, religion, beliefs, values, education, social groups

(family) and organizations, economic system, housing, legal system, etc.

5. People are the same in their basic human needs, but differ in their preferred way of meeting those needs (see Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs below).

6. Culture defines the preferred ways for meeting those needs.

}Then choose one of the 60 words that you will use in your Power Point. In your note book :

 2. Go to a quote site and get five quotes and put in your note book.

 3. Also, cut and paste the above, including the author of the quote into word document.

 4. Email your word document to my email address which should be on the inside of the front cover of your notebook. I will not accept any emails later than 10 pm this evening
